March - April 2012

Gloucestershire & Neighbouring Counties Lunch Meetings

Monday 26 March
The microphone and the typewriter
John Griffiths looks back on his career in broadcasting and journalism and describes the pleasures and problems he experienced in writing his recent book Afghanistan – Land of Conflict and Beauty.

Venue: The Dark Barn, Barber's Bridge, Rudford GL2 8DX. This is a new venue for us and not as sinister as it sounds. It is west of Gloucester on the B4215 Gloucester-Highnam-Newent Road and is clearly indicated with a brown tourist sign. Tel: 01452 790412.

Monday 23 April
When ignorance is bliss!
Mo Smith (aka The Lazy Cook) is recognised as one of Britain's most successful self-publishers in Get Your Book Published (Hodder & Stoughton). She describes her experiences of publishing and marketing her books (five in all) and compares the travails of self-publishing with those of working with a publisher.

Venue: Amberley Inn, Culver Hill, Amberley GL5 5AF (off A46 between Nailsworth and Stroud). Tel: 01453 872565.

About these meetings

Meetings are open to members of the Society of Authors and their guests. We start to gather in the bar of the chosen hostelry around noon and order meals. No charge is made for these meetings, but those attending are responsible for  buying their own drinks and meals.

Please inform Eugenie Summerfield (01452 612793 / eugenies@btinternet.com) or Roger Jones (01242 515533 / rogerjones@phonecoop.coop) in advance if you are coming, so we can inform you of any last-minute changes.
