The Society of Authors administers a number of grants and prizes for writers.

Grants

Grants for works in progress: The Authors' Foundation and the K Blundell Trust assist writers with research costs or to 'buy time' to write, and grants totalling over £70,000 are awarded each year. Find out more

Grants for writers in need: The Charitable Trusts provide temporary financial relief for professional authors or their dependents in sudden financial difficulty. Find out more

Prizes

The Authors' Awards: These prizes for fiction, non-fiction and poetry are worth £76,000 in prize money.

The ALCS Award for Educational Writing: This prize is for an outstanding example of traditionally published non-fiction that enhances teaching and learning. Read more

The British Council ELT Writing Award: This prize is for an outstanding contribution by an English Language Teaching author or authors. Read more

Radio Drama Awards: The Imison and Tinniswood Awards honour original radio drama scripts by established writers and writers new to radio. The Imison Award | The Tinniswood Award

Translation Prizes:  Prizes for literary translations into English from the Arabic, Dutch/Flemish, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Swedish. Read more
