If you meet the eligibility criteria outlined on the application form, joining couldn’t be easier! Simply download and print out the application form, complete and send or fax (020 7373 5768) it to the Membership Department.
If you have a contract or agency agreement that you would like immediate help with, don’t forget to include it with your application form and it will be passed on to one of the contract advisors straight away.
If your membership has lapsed and you would like to rejoin, you can send a cheque for £90 (£64 if under 35) along with your name, address, email address and daytime telephone number. Alternatively, you can rejoin by calling the office and paying by credit card over the phone.
You can pay by sterling cheque, made payable to the Society of Authors, or credit card (American Express, Visa, Mastercard or Switch). The first year’s membership subscription is £90, payable on application.
However, if you’re an author under 35, and are not yet earning a significant income from writing, you may apply for membership at the lower rate of £64. After the first year, other subscription rates are available, including discounts for paying by Direct Debit.
